World Social Forum 2007

A convergence meeting of urban social movements playing a role in the right housing and to the city was held in Nairobi under the framework of the WSF, jointly proposed by the HIC and IAI.
A International Seminar: the Popular Fund for the right to Land and Housing.
The Coordinating Committee of the IAI held its annual meeting in which participated some of the chief members of the technical support committee.

IAI has registered some initiatives at WSF:

• 21/01: The Zero Evictions Campaign
: from the establishment of the international warning system to the first results of solidarity actions.

22/01: Popular Funds for Land and Housing, an innovative strategy to promote secure housing tenure by developing the public service through cooperation., in cooperation (FLA, FALP, FAMSI, Swedish Cooperative Centre, etc.).

24/01: World Action Days for the right to housing 2007/08 (proposed to FAL, No-Vox, SDI, COHRE, HIC, etc.): solidarity without borders as the basis of alternative global power.

Further meetings are planned, in which the IAI members will participate, particularly in the following areas: urban rights, foreign debt, training, information, etc.

The International Council of the WSF has approved a proposal by the Ecumenical Platform, Kutoka Parish Network and the International Alliance of Inhabitants for the introduction of a reduced registration rate for participation in the WSF!

7th Forum of Local Authorities (FAL)
In January 2007 the 7th Forum of Local Authorities (FAL) together with the World Social Forum (WSF) will be held in Nairobi, Kenya. This event will have an innovative format, and will aim to hold joint debates with social organisations within the context of global social movements, through activities organised by us on 21 and 22 January, and to hold a world assembly of local governments on 23 January.

International Alliance of Inhabitants is promoting a "Urban" Popular University, to respond to the need for research and reflection about a global strategy of justice concerning the social construction of habitat and to encourage the organisational development of the various members of IAI.
