Self-recovery and Self-building for residential purposes aims at shaping the innovating, sometimes conflicting ideas which are generated from society into the form of partnership and at making more profitable state investments combining town planning policies with the social, residential and economic ones and, consequently, controlling the many factors which originate social exclusion and city degradation.

The program

The PVD emerged almost four years ago in Madrid, bringing together various collectives and neighbourhood and private associations concerned with the growing difficulty of finding a home in the city.

On the agenda: the urgency of housing, which now affects some 18 million people in Europe, of which 3 million are homeless. It is a situation which is becoming increasingly serious under the liberalisation of property markets and privatisation of the social housing sector.

The next stage: autumn 2007, European States General on housing and towns, Brussels.
